Today's Film News: Iron Man 2 Will Be Even Ironer

By Katey Rich

IronsmallOK everybody, mark your calendars for April 30, 2010. That's the release date Marvel Studios has set for Iron Man 2, the inevitable result of this weekend's blowout performance by Iron Man. Robert Downey Jr. is reportedly bulking up already to step into the iron suit. The Hollywood Reporter also has a list of the full slate Marvel has set for 2010, including Thor and The First Avenger: Captain America.

Terrestrial prison escape dramas just aren't enough these days, says Warner Bros. What we really need is a prison escape drama set in outer space... specifically, on one of Jupiter's moons. That's the concept behind Sascha Penn's spec script The Ditch, which Variety reports has been picked up by Warner. Penn has previously produced music documentaries like Dave Chappelle's Block Party and the recent Tom Petty and the Heartbreakers: Runnin' Down a Dream.

Bones_scene1_5771_fOne of the few former stars of "Freaks & Geeks" to yet turn in a performance in one of Judd Apatow's movies, John Francis Daley is still doing OK for himself, working on a script with co-writer Jonathan Goldstein for Scott Rudin and Disney. The Reporter writes that Hours of Fun is about two friends who order novelty toys from the back pages of a magazine in the late 70s, only to have those toys actually become powerful 30 years later. Given the success of superhero movies these days, it was only a matter of time before there was a movie about those other key elements of comic books.

And finally, before they got to see Iron Man on Friday, millions of fans were treated to the second trailer for The Dark Knight, which remains quite probably the most anticipated movie of the summer. The high-definition version is online, available here, and it's ridiculously gorgeous. Yes, it's better to see it on the big screen, but it beats crappy YouTube quality any day. Be sure to check it out.
