Michael Bay, step away from the remakes and put your hands above your head. His Platinum Dunes production company is already tackling Nightmare on Elm Street and Friday the 13th retreads, but now Bay is reaching even further, planning a remake of the grandmother of all evil baby stories, Rosemary's Baby. The Hollywood Reporter writes that it will also be a Platinum Dunes project, and Bay will produce alongside Andrew Form and Brad Fuller. I think the less that is said about this, the better.
The cast for Confessions of a Shopaholic keeps growing, and now has an entire magazine staff under its wing. John Lithgow, Kristin Scott Thomas, Leslie Bibb, Lynn Redgrave and Julie Haggerty have all joined the Isla Fisher vehicle, and all will play staffers involved with the magazine where Fisher's character works. And you thought the staff of Runway in The Devil Wears Prada was star-studded!
The accusations that the media and Hollywood are totally "in the tank" for Barack Obama aren't going to get any quieter now that Edward Norton is reportedly planning a documentary on the Presidential candidate. Edward Norton will act as a producer through his Class 5 Films; Amy Rice and Alicia Sams are currently directing the project, which is untitled. Obama allowed the filmmakers access to his campaign starting in spring 2006, before he officially began his campaign; Norton told Variety, "Barack in particular just got it, what we were trying to do, and the trust factor we were able to build has been so helpful."
And finally, Wolfgang Petersen is back! The director of Poseidon and Troy will take charge of Uprising, a sci-fi thriller for Sony. Variety describes the movie as the story of humans who rise up against aliens who have colonized the planet. Charles Leavitt, who most recently wrote Blood Diamond, is making quite a change of pace to write the screenplay for this one.
