The behind-the-scenes tales from David O. Russell's political satire Nailed are getting to be about as wacky as the movie's plot. Three weeks ago James Caan stormed off the set after an argument with the director about the proper way for his character to choke on a cookie. Now James Brolin has stepped into the role, and Kirstie Alley and Olivia Crocicchia have joined the cast as well. As The Hollywood Reporter points out, Brolin's son Josh also has a choking scene coming up, playing George W. Bush during his infamous pretzel incident in Oliver Stone's W. Nailed is currently filming.
Even though the Wachowskis may be headed for a flop this weekend-- check out this Reporter story on Speed Racer's dismal tracking numbers--they're still carrying on as producers. Variety reports that the siblings, along with producing partner Joel Silver, have secured $9 million from the German Film Fund to produce Ninja Assassin, filming in Berlin with James McTeigue (V for Vendetta) directing. The same group gave $14 million to fund Speed Racer, and we'll find out this weekend if they'll live to regret that decision.
It was only a matter of time before Disney returned to the 3D concert movie well that yielded such great results with Hannah Montana in February. This time it's fellow tween sensations The Jonas Brothers who will be hitting the big screen, according to the Reporter. Footage will be shot during their "Burning Up" tour that kicks off on July 4, and the film is set for release in 2009. If the Jonases follow the same career trajectory that Miley Cyrus/Hannah Montana did after her concert movie, this Vulture piece about "getting to know your Jonas Brothers overlords" may be required reading.
And finally, Ellen Page will continue to reign as the geek girl to love: She'll star in BBC Films' adaptation of Jane Eyre, reports Variety. No director has signed on, but the production is set to begin in the fall.
